What it costs to install an EV charger in Spokane
Every EV charger install quote comes down to the same handful of factors. Understand them and any quote you get - ours included - will make sense.

The factors that set the price
- Panel capacity. A Level 2 charger needs a dedicated 40-60 amp circuit. If your panel has no spare capacity, a panel upgrade joins the quote - the biggest single variable. See 100 vs 200 amp panels.
- Distance from panel to charger. Wire, conduit and labor scale with every foot between the panel and the parking spot. A charger on the other side of a garage from the panel is the cheap case.
- Detached garage or outdoor mounting. Trenching, weather-rated materials and GFCI protection add cost.
- The permit. An EV charger circuit needs an electrical permit and inspection - City of Spokane inside city limits, Washington State L&I elsewhere in the county. Details in our EV charger permit guide.
- The charger itself. The unit is separate from the installation; hardwired vs plug-in changes the work slightly.
What national figures say
National cost guides put a straightforward Level 2 home installation - panel has room, short wire run - in the hundreds of dollars, and complex jobs with long runs or a panel upgrade in the low thousands. Those are national ranges, not a quote for your home; your number comes from the factors above, which is why we quote after a look at the panel and the garage layout rather than over the phone.
Ways to keep the cost down
Put the charger on the panel side of the garage if you can. Ask whether your panel truly lacks capacity or just lacks open breaker spaces - they are different problems with different prices. And check with Avista whether any current EV programs or rates apply to your address before you schedule.
Call (509) 239-5654 with your panel location, where the car parks and the charger model you are considering. Our EV charger installation page covers the service itself.
Common questions
Do I need a permit for a home EV charger in Spokane?
Yes. A new EV charging circuit requires an electrical permit and inspection - from the City of Spokane inside city limits, or Washington State L&I elsewhere in Spokane County.
Can my panel handle a Level 2 charger?
Maybe. A Level 2 charger needs a dedicated 40-60 amp circuit. If the panel is already near capacity or full, options range from load management to a panel upgrade - a load calculation gives the real answer.
How long does installation take?
A simple install with panel capacity is often half a day. Add trenching, long runs or a panel upgrade and it becomes a longer job - the quote will say which yours is.
